Detoxification and cleansing programs are becoming increasingly common as individuals attempt to increase and improve the health of their bodies. Many people have also had some success with doing a detoxification before starting a healthy, weight loss diet.
While detoxification programs are widely used there are not any scientific studies that prove the efficacy of a detox/cleansing program. However, there are noticeable benefits, one of the main being the fact that after a good cleansing your taste for fatty, unhealthy foods dissipates and you are more likely to stick with a healthy program.
Detoxification is normally thought of as a treatment for an addiction to drugs or alcohol. It is intended to remove the physiological effects of the addictive substances, but the holistic meaning of detoxification is to eliminate any poisonous or toxic substances from the human body. Cleansing is the removal of these toxic or harmful substances from the body in as natural a process as possible. There have been a number of different methods for detoxification and cleansing practiced around the world for centuries.
Many centuries ago, the need for detoxification and cleansing wasn’t as necessary as it is today due to the simple fact that people’s diets were much more natural and organic and there were not nearly so many toxins in the environment. Many of the fruits and vegetables that we have today have lost much of their natural nutrients due to soil depletion and farming methods.
The addition of supplements like vitamins, minerals, certain herbs, and amino acids are helpful to maintaining health, but can’t always remove the toxins that enter our systems. Also certain supplements can add to the problem if they are overused, especially the supplements that are fat-soluble. Consuming a healthy, organic and nontoxic diet can lead to an incredibly healthy lifestyle, but it often helps to start out with a good detoxification and cleansing first.
A healthy, nutritious and mostly organic diet is the best way to great health and a strong immune system. A nontoxic diet will consist of very basic yet nutritious and balanced food choices. Individuals who would like to begin eating a less toxic diet should consider eating organic foods; include fruits, vegetables, whole grains as well as seeds and nuts. Low fat organic dairy products, organic poultry and certain types of fresh fish can be eaten in moderation as well.
Nontoxic diets to prevent the need for frequent detoxification and cleansing should include drinking filtered water and cooking in only iron, glass, stainless steel or porcelain bake ware. Avoiding nicotine and caffeine and all drugs including over the counter medications is also a part of the less toxic diet. The alternating of different foods is the best way to maintain a balanced diet and provide all of the best nutrition for an individual’s body.
Detoxification and cleansing is a good way to begin the process of feeling comprehensively healthy. Continuing to consume a healthy and nutritious diet every day is the best way to maintain the overall healthy and strong body and mind.
